PHMSA‘s notice emphasizes the importance of using cylinders that are manufactured to DOT or UN standards and properly marked with certification markings. Non-compliant cylinders may notbe designed to withstand the high pressures involved in refrigerant recovery and could pose significant safety risks to HVAC technicians, transportation workers, and the general public.
“FluoroFusion is committed to the safety of our customers, sustainability partners, and the HVAC/R industry as a whole,” said Brad Kivlan, Executive Vice President at FluoroFusion. “We strongly urge all service technicians to ensure they are using DOT or UN-compliant recovery cylinders to protect themselves and the public. The use of non-compliant cylinders can lead to serious consequences, including fires, explosions, and the release of refrigerants into the environment.”
FluoroFusion encourages all HVAC technicians to review the PHMSA Safety Advisory Notice and familiarize themselves with the requirements for compliant recovery cylinders. The company also recommends that technicians purchase cylinders only from reputable suppliers and verify that the cylinders are properly marked and certified.

About FluoroFusion:
At FluoroFusion Specialty Chemicals, Inc., we are dedicated to reclaiming and manufacturing refrigerants to minimize the impact on the ozone layer and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We operate a network of Carbon Reduction Centers (CRCs) across the United States to collect used refrigerants. These refrigerants are then processed at our Clayton, NC facility, which houses an AHRI-certified laboratory, ensuring that all reclaimed refrigerants meet the stringent purity standards of AHRI 700. In addition to refrigerant reclamation, we blend virgin and reclaimed refrigerants, with a focus on lower-global-warming-potential (GWP) alternatives to support compliance with environmental regulations such as the AIM Act. Our commitment to innovation is evident in our research and development efforts, where we actively develop and patent cutting-edge reclamation technologies and environmentally friendly refrigerant solutions.
